From October 25 to 27, 2024, the 17th National College Russian Language Competition was successfully held at Heilongjiang University, sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of the Ministry of Education. Yang Junyi, a 2023 undergraduate student majoring in Russian at the School of Languages and Cultures (School of International Communication and Exchange), participated in the contest under the guidance of Dr. Liu Jingjuan and won the third prize, earning a fully funded one-year exchange program in Russia from the China Scholarship Council.
The National College Russian Language Competition is an important institutionalized project for Sino-Russian humanities exchanges and has been successfully held for 14 consecutive years. It is one of the highest-level competitions in the field of Russian language in China. The contest includes three categories: lower-grade, upper-grade, and graduate students. After three rounds of competition, 60 winners were selected, all of whom will receive full funding to study in Russia.
Yang Junyi from our university stood out in the online preliminary round and performed stably in the semifinals, earning praise from the judges. She ultimately won the third prize, becoming the third student from our Russian program to win an award in the lower-grade category. She expressed that her award was attributed to her own efforts and Dr. Liu’s guidance. The contest helped her gain a clearer understanding of her strengths and weaknesses.
Our faculty will summarize contest experience, draw on best practices from other universities, and reform teaching systems, methods, and concepts. We aim to develop our Russian program into a national first-class program with political and legal characteristics, nurturing talents with global vision and skills. We hope students will follow Yang Junyi’s example and strive for better results in future contests.
